MS Diamant
Switzerland’s first climate-neutral commercial passenger boat
Project description
This ship isn’t just visually impressive, it is also full of technical innovations. Thanks to its light weight, optimised hull shape and the hybrid drive, it can save around 20% more energy compared to a conventional ship, for example.
The large new motor vessel of the Navigation Company of Lake Lucerne (SGV) AG (Schifffahrtsgesellschaft des Vierwaldstättersees SGV AG) was christened the ‘Diamant’ on Thursday 4th May 2017 and set out on its maiden voyage on the lake. The MS Diamant is Switzerland’s first climate-neutral commercial passenger boat.
The MS Diamant has been in daily use running from Lucerne to Flüelen since 25th May 2017, as well as for extra trips out on Lake Lucerne. There are culinary cruises on the MS Diamant on Friday and Saturday evenings. The precise schedule for the MS Diamant is published on www.lakelucerne.ch.
The capacity of up to 400 banquet seats means it also allows for large events to be held in a unique setting. Numerous surprises await the passengers across the vessel’s five decks. Whether it’s the nautilus room with an underwater view in the hull, a sealable inner gallery covered with a glass dome, the water terrace with a seawater footbath or the compass lounge on the sun deck.
