Starting point

Shiptec developed and constructed an economical and ecological passenger ship using a new concept. Our naval architects showed courage and did not stick to the well-known passenger ship design rules, choosing instead to develop a ship designed to look like a luxury yacht.

Goals

To supplement the existing fleet of the Lake Lucerne Navigation Company (Schifffahrtsgesellschaft des Vierwaldstättersees), Shiptec built and developed a passenger ship for round trips. The ship was intended to set new standards in shipping. The focus was on creating an economical and ecological ship.

Challenges

What makes a ship a luxury yacht? The dynamic and perfectly formed design, as well as the ‘water platform’ at the stern give passengers an insight into the world of superyachts. Shiptec attaches great importance to the design of its ships. That is why Judel/ Vroljik, the design office well-known in the world of yachting, was commissioned to design the ship’s aesthetic appearance.

The modern underwater shape allows for extremely low resistance, so the MS Saphir glides easily through the water.
