Starting point

The steamship Wilhelm Tell has been used as a restaurant on Schweizerhofquai in Lucerne since 1972. Even though the ship is firmly anchored, regular inspection of the hull is necessary. The last docking was in 2009, so it was high time to inspect the hull more closely and renew the corrosion protection.

Services

After cleaning the shell, which was heavily infested with mussels, a shell residual thickness measurement was made. Thereby, some spots were found that had to be rehabilitated. As we only had 4 weeks for all the work, the damaged areas had to be replaced quickly. In total, about 6 m2 of shell sheeting was replaced. Subsequently, the paint structure of the underwater protection was renewed up to the Leist.

Challenges

There were many challenges in the course of the project. The condition of the hull was insufficient in some places and we therefore had to master some additional efforts.

The transport of the 350 t vessel without propulsion was a masterstroke of the SGV/Shiptec team; especially the return transport was difficult, it had to be postponed 2x due to unfavourable wind conditions.
