MS Ägerisee - electrification on the lake Pre-Alps

The operators of Ägerisee Schiffahrt AG announced in a press release on 20 March that the ship will be equipped with a new electric drive.

The ship, which was commissioned in 2003, was in need of a comprehensive refurbishment anyway, according to the shipping company. Electric technology has now developed to such an extent that it is ideally suited for ships on small lakes. By replacing the diesel drive with an electric drive, 317 tonnes of CO2 can be saved each year. This CO2-neutral drive technology is fully in line with the sustainability strategy of Zugerland Verkehrsbetriebe.

Shiptec is delighted to have been commissioned by ZVB to carry out this conversion. Following the electrification of the passenger ships "Heimat" on Lake Greifensee and "Rütli" on Lake Lucerne, the MS Ägerisee is another ship to be converted to electric propulsion and corresponding batteries by Shiptec.

The conversion work will be carried out in the port of Oberägeri from autumn 2024. The electrification involves switching from conventional diesel engines to a fully electric system with lithium-ion batteries and conversion work on the helm station. Shiptec designed the systems and selected all components in advance.
